Comments:—This is a cosmopolitan species and has been found in hindguts of Simuliidae , Chironomidae , Tipulidae and Culicidae ( Lichtwardt et al. 2001, White & Lichtwardt 2004). We got our specimens (COL18) from one infected black fly ( Simulium sp. ) larva. Colombian specimens had trichospores measuring 16–23 × 2.9–3.6 μm, with a median bulge and cylindrical collar 1.3–2.5 μm long. Thallus with a main axis, holdfast about 13 μm diameter. Zygospores not found.
