Demelodos Mello-Leitão, 1943: 164 . Type species: Demelodos iheringi Mello-Leitão 1943: 164 , immature female holotype from Rio Grande do Norte, Rudolf von Ihering (MNRJ, examined).
Note. The genus Demelodos was proposed by Mello-Leitão (1943), but in the original description, Mello-Leitão used two different spellings, the one above and Demolodos. Caporiacco (1948) presumed that the name is an anagram of Dolomedes Latreille, 1804 View in CoL , and the former spelling is assumed to be the correct one; the spelling Demolodes, used by Roewer (1955) and subsequent catalogues ( Brignoli 1983; Platnick 1989), is incorrect ( Platnick 1993). The holotype is labelled with the in schedula “ Demelodos dubius ” specific name ( Silva-Moreira et al., 2010). The genus was placed in the " Trechalea View in CoL genus-group" by Sierwald (1990).
The holotype of Demelodos iheringi , which is a small, immature female and the only known specimen, cannot be distinguished from other genera in Trechaleidae View in CoL , and is considered as insertae sedis.
