Valid name: Suncus murinus (Linnaeus, 1766)
Syntype: ZMB 663, skin and skull. Collected by Hemprich and Ehrenberg from Suez, Egypt 1823. Comment: The taxon name and description are credited to Lichtenstein 1829, although he mentioned a publication planned by Ehrenberg. Previously the taxon was credited to Hemprich & Ehrenberg 1832 (or 1834).
