Type material

Holotype female from INDIA: Madhya Pradesh: Jabalpur: Lamheta Ghat (23°06ʹ42.37ʹ’ N, 79°50ʹ08.26ʹ’ E; 398 m alt), Pawan Gajbe leg., 27 September 1997, repository NZC-ZSI, Kolkata (no register number), not examined. Justification of the transfer

Even though we were unable to examine the type specimen of this species, the original illustrations of epigyne show that it lacks diagnostic features of Sergiolus such as globose spermathecae, with internal protrusions and blind median ducts ( Platnick and Shadab 1981); instead, it resembles the species of Hitobia Kamura, 1992 as illustrated for Hitobia unifascigera ( Bösenberg & Strand, 1906) , the type species of the genus and H. asiatica ( Bösenberg & Strand, 1906) : recurved AER and PER and large sac-like spermathecae (compare Gajbe and Gajbe 1999, figs 1, 3–4 with Kamura 1992, figs 11, 16, 20, 25). Based on these observations, we propose to transfer S. lamhetaghatensis to Hitobia . Judging from the illustrations of epigyne ( Gajbe and Gajbe 1999, figs 1, 3–4), this species may be a junior synonym of Hitobia poonaensis ( Tikader & Gajbe, 1976) comb. nov., but confirmation requires the examination of the type or topotype material of H. lamhetaghatensis comb. nov.

Male. Unknown.

Remarks

We were unable to trace out the types of S. lamhetaghatensis in the arachnid collection of ZSI, even though the authors mentioned that the types would be deposited there ( Gajbe and Gajbe 1999).
