Temnopis castanea Martins, 1978b: 129 View in CoL ; Monné 1993: 11 (cat.); Monné and Giesbert 1994: 29 (checklist); Martins 1997: 82; Vulcano et al. 1980: 107 (distr.); Martins and Galileo 2004: 12, 68; Monné 2005: 421 (cat.); Wappes et al. 2006: 6 (distr.); Monné et al. 2017b: 30 (holotype); Monné et al. 2017a: 5 (distr.); Monné and Monné, 2017: 222 (distr.); Monné 2023: 635.

Remarks. Despite having the T. nigripes holotype in hand, Martins (1978b) did not compare T. castanea with this species. According to the original description, the general colour of T. castanea can be brownish or reddish-brown. In fact, the holotype is not brownish, but mostly dark brown. Among the species of Temnopis , T. castanea is the species morphologically most similar to T. nigripes . However, T. castanea differs as follows: scape proportionally longer and slenderer ( Figure 53 View Figures 49–56 ) (vs shorter and thicker ( Figure 54 View Figures 49–56 ) in the holotype of T. castanea ); antennomeres III–V slender ( Figure 49 View Figures 49–56 ) (vs distinctly tumid ( Figure 54 View Figures 49–56 ) in the holotype of T. castanea ); mesoventral process present ( Figure 50 View Figures 49–56 ) (vs absent ( Figure 55 View Figures 49–56 ) in the holotype of T. castanea ); and metafemoral club thicker ( Figure 50 View Figures 49–56 ) (vs slender ( Figure 55 View Figures 49–56 ) in the holotype of T. castanea ).
