Material examined. AFGHANISTAN: 1 ♂: ‘ Vt. N. Salang 1450m Nhenjan , bord torrent 11.8.1975. Leg. Ledoux’ (cZ) ; 1 ♂: ‘ Afghanistan Umgeb. Kabul leg. J.Klapperich’ (cB) .

Redescription. Measurements (n=3): HW: 0.75–0.85; HL: 0.46–0.52; OL: 0.22–0.25; LT: 0.07; AL (averaged): 2.36; PL: 0.67–0.69; PWmax: 0.98–1.02; PWmin: 0.78–0.80; ESL: 1.47–1.70; EW: 1.60–1.70; MTbL (averaged): 1.02; MTrL (averaged): 0.44 (MTrL 1–4: 0.20; MTrL 5: 0.22); AW: 1.58–1.65; AedL: 0.92–0.97; BL: 4.15–4.35.

Habitus as in Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–5 . Body reddish-brown, with paler intersegmental membranes between abdominal tergites III–VII; mouthparts, antennae and legs yellow-brown to brown; apical segment of maxillary palpi and tarsi yellowish. Body glossy; head with fine microreticulation, slightly coarser between bases of antennae, distinctly finer in middle portion; neck with large mesh-like sculpture; pronotum with very dense and coarse isodiametric microsculpture, finer in mediobasal portion; scutellum with fine transverse meshes; abdomen with dense transverse microreticulation.

Head 1.6 times as broad as long, with distinctly elevated portion between bases of antennae and slightly elevated infraorbital portions; supra-antennal proturberances narrow, strongly elevated, diagonally stretching from base of antennae to about level of apical margins of eyes; medioapical depression deep and wide, narrowing posteriad toward relatively shallow or deep subrectangular interocellar depression; anteocellar foveae distinct, very narrow, diagonally stretching anteriad toward level of middle or anterior third of eyes; temples short, convex, more than three times as long as longitudinal length of eyes. Eyes moderately large, very convex. Ocelli large, located below level of posterior margins of eyes, distance between ocelli about as long as distance between ocellus and posterior margin of eyes, or distinctly longer. Punctation irregular, moderately fine, sparser and finer in middle and larger and denser on infraorbital portions. Apical segment of maxillary palpi about 1.7 times as long as preapical segment. Antennae long, exceeding middle or apical third length of elytra when reclined; basal antennomere moderately wide, about three times as long as broad, antennomere 2 slightly narrower and distinctly shorter than basal antennomere, 3–4 slightly longer than 2, 5–6 slightly longer than 4, 7–9 slightly longer than 6, 10 slightly shorter than 9, apical antennomere about 1.4 times as long as 10, from apical third gradually narrowed toward subacute apex.

Pronotum moderately small, convex, 1.4 times as broad as long, 1.2–1.3 times as broad as head, widest in anterior portion, gradually narrowed posteriad toward obtuse posterior angles; anterior margin rounded, about as long as straight posterior margin. Punctation dense, about as that in middle portion of head or distinctly larger, but finer and sparser in mediobasal portion, interspaces between punctures in middle about as broad of one-two diameters of nearest punctures; narrow longitudinal band of pronotal disc without punctures.

Scutellum without or with several very fine punctures.

Elytra somewhat flattened, about as broad as long or slightly narrower, distinctly more than twice as long as pronotum, slightly broadened posteriad, with widely rounded apical margins. Punctation dense, about as that on pronotum or slightly deeper, finer around scutellum and along suture. Wings fully developed.

Metatarsus more than twice shorter than metatibiae; apical antennomere slightly longer than preceding four metatarsomeres.

Abdomen distinctly narrower than elytra, with two large transverse tomentose spots in the middle of abdominal tergite IV; apical margin of abdominal tergite VII with narrow palisade fringe. Punctation regular, very dense and fine.

Male. Protarsomeres 1–4 wide. Apical margin of abdominal tergite VIII rounded. Apical margin of abdominal sternite VIII concave. Aedeagus narrow, long, with small basal portion slightly narrowed toward apical third of median lobe, with slightly broadened apical portion, gradually narrowed toward rounded apex; parameres narrow, reaching apex of median lobe, with four moderately short apical setae; internal sac without sclerotized structures, with very long flagellum, spirally folded in basal portion ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6–11 ). Female. Protarsomeres 1–4 narrow. Apical margins of abdominal tergite VIII and sternite VIII rounded.

Comparative notes. Based on the general shape of the body and the aedeagus, H. klapperichi is similar to H. reitteri ( Scheerpeltz, 1933) , from which it can be distinguished by the slightly shorter body, the slightly broader apical part of the aedeagus, and the absence of sclerotized elongate structures in the middle portion of the internal sac.

Distribution. Hygrodromicus klapperichi is known from three localities in north-eastern part of Afghanistan.

Bionomics. The type specimens were collected at an elevation of 2700 m a.s.l. The detailed bionomical data are unknown.

Remarks. Hygrodromicus klapperichi was originally described based on four specimens from “ Afghanistan, Nouristan, Bashgultal…”. Before the original description, these specimens were labelled by O. Scheerpeltz as “ Geodromicus klapperichi ”. During my study of Omaliinae in MHNH in 2011, I found one female which could belong to the type serie (see above).
