Identification. Dorsal-fin rays 6–7. Gonopodium with a retrorse hook on ray 5. The fleshy palp elongated, ex- tending well beyond the tip. Ventral spines on the third gonopodial ray large, giving the gonopodium a bulb-like appearance. Body silvery, with dots, stripes and blotches (only in males) ( Poeser 2003).
