Type species.— Cicada madagascariensis Distant 1892: 57 . (North Madagascar)

Remarks.— Distant (1904b) used a head about as wide as the mesonotum, head about half as long as wide, circular, globular eyes angled dorsally, the pronotum is about as long as the mesonotum anterior to the cruciform elevation and slightly narrowing posterior to eyes, the abdomen is longer than the length between the anterior postclypeus and posterior cruciform elevation, a rostrum reaching the posterior coxae, strongly spined anterior femora, the opercula not passing the base of the metasternum and the talc-like wings as characteristic of the genus. The globular eyes and the expansion of the lateral supra-antennal plate on the anterior margin of the head quickly distinguish the genus from Orientafroinsularis n. gen.

Distribution.—The genus is restricted to Madagascar ( Metcalf 1963a; Sanborn 2013).
