Mouldspsaltria madegassa ( Boulard, 1996) View in CoL n. comb.
Macrotristria madegassa Boulard 1996: 101 View in CoL . (Dry forest on the Ermitage road, surroundings of Ambaja, northwest Madagascar)
Remarks.—The largest of the hyaline winged cicadas in Madagascar. It is a tawny and testaceous species marked with piceous, the anterior pronotal collar has a distinctive transverse fascia not reaching the lateral angle, macular infuscation on the fore wing radial and radiomedial crossveins and distal veins between apical cells, and white pubescence on the abdomen, denser on the anterolateral and posterior tergites. Body lengths are 38–40 mm and wingspans are 121–123 mm ( Boulard 1996). The song is a continuous train of sound pulses modulated in intensity ( Boulard 1996).
Distribution.—The species is only known from Madagascar ( Sanborn 2013). Boulard (1996) reported the species from the dry forest on the Ermitage road, surroundings of Ambaja, northwest Madagascar.
Material examined.—Detailed images of one male and one female paratype were kindly provided by M.S. Moulds. “ MADAGASCAR, 20 km / Nord d’Ambanja / 21.XI.1995 / Mic. BOULARD, réc. // Mission / Singer-Polignac / Nov.-Dec. 1995 / Michel Boulard” .
