Malagasia inflata Distant 1882: 337 View in CoL . ( Madagascar)

Remarks.—The largest species of the genus with a body length about 40–42 mm and wingspan about 98–108 mm ( Distant 1882). The body size, inflated male abdomen with a piceous posterior margin to the abdominal tergites, and bronzing restricted to the distal fore wing quickly distinguish the species from its congeneric species. The song is a series of short buzzes about 1.5 s in duration increasing in intensity to about 1 s with a short decrease in intensity followed by the loudest and most rapid production of timbal clicks completing the syllable with peak energy about 1.4 kHz ( Boulard 2006b).

Distribution.—The species is known only from Madagascar ( Metcalf 1963b; Sanborn 2013). Jacobi (1917) reported the species from Antananarivo, central Madagascar.
