Kojour, Nowshahr , Mazandaran, (N 36° 26΄ 0.08˝, E 51° 44΄ 0˝), 1385m, ZUTC 6031 ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
General distribution and habitats. Widely distributed in central Palaearctic region and is also found in Amur system from east; westward in Poland to Turkey and Levant from south ( Nesemann & Neubert 1999). Reported by Grosser & Pešić (2006) from western and central Iran. Living in littoral zones of small rivers and mountainous streams.
Descriptive features and remarks. Medium sized leeches (to 50 mm). Dorsally with flattened cylindrical body. Genital pores separated by 2.5 annuli. Dorsally, reddish brown with transverse rows of yellowish spots on each annulus. Ventrally, pale white or yellowish white. Anterior and posterior suckers dorsally brighter. Specimens from Iran without any dorsal black longitudinal stripes, as described by Lukin (1976).
