Saccharodite carens Zelazny View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Fig. 298)
Description. Forewings broad, 1.7 times longer than wide, length in male about 3.2 mm. Colour stramineous to light brown, faintly orange in front of eyes. Forewings glassy, uniformly and lightly infuscated; veins light brown, but last subcostal sector and adjacent section of costa orange; 4 dark spots on base of Sc+R. Hindwings including veins faintly infuscated. In profile junction of vertex and face slightly angulated; subantennal process connected to margins of facial carinae by a ridge; rostrum slightly surpassing post trochanters. Forewings with Sc+R fork at middle of wing; basal median cell broad, about 2 times as wide as basal cell between Sc+R and M; a small triangle at base of Ms1. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles elongated; proximal dorsal process broad, the short tip curved inwards; distal dorsal process elongated. Aedeagus with apical portion long and narrow, divided by a deep, longitudinal groove, and ending in 2 short lobes, the right one pointed.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin participle ( carens = missing) which remains unchanged in all gender forms.
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.2 mm), EAST MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO; no data, among North Borneo material in a genital capsule which also contained specimens of Sa. lucifera , a species only reported so far from North Borneo ( BPBM).
Distribution. North Borneo.
Diagnosis. Saccharodite carens belongs to the large group of Saccharodite species which have in profile a slightly angulated junction of vertex and face, broad forewings, and a broad proximal dorsal process on the male genital styles (e.g. Sa. kagoshimana (Matsumura) which is also found in Borneo or Sa. imperiali Zelazny from the Philippines). It can be easily recognized by the uniformly infuscated wings and the nearly colourless body.
