Description. Forewing length in male 2.9–3.3 mm (mean = 3.0, n = 6). Apical portion of male aedeagus with an additional small tooth-like process on the left side near the apical margin; right side of apical portion ending in 2 pointed processes, the ventral one longer, broader and in some specimens (not holotype) narrowing abruptly before its tip.
Note. Externally very similar to Saccharodite virgata Zelazny. The above description has been shortened, due to this similarity.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (viperinus, -a, -um = viper-like).
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 2.9 mm), EAST MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO: SABAH; labels: 1) NORTH BORNEO ( SE)/ Forest Camp, 19 km N. of Kalabakan / 60 m, 28.X.1962 2) K.J. Kuncheria / Collector / BISHOP ( BPBM) . Paratypes. EAST MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO: SABAH: Sandakan , 1 ♂, Baker ( USNM); same data as holotype, 30.X.1962, 1 ♂ (fw. 2.9) ( BPBM) ; SARAWAK: Mt. Kalulong , new forest, 27.XI.1932, 1 ♂ (fw. 3.3), B.M. Hobby & A.W. Moore ( BMNH); 1 ♂ (fw. 2.9), no labels, among Borneo material; WEST MALAY- SIA : Sungei, Linam , 2–20m, 20.IX.1960, 1 ♂ (fw. 3.1), J.L. Gressitt; Penang, 12–14.I.1959, 1 ♂ (fw. 3.2), Malaise trap, Gressitt (all BPBM) .
Distribution. West Malaysia, North Borneo.
Diagnosis. Saccharodite viperina sp. nov. is very closely related to Sa. virgata Zelazny , also found in Borneo. It can be separated by an additional small, tooth-like process on the left side of the apical part of the male aedeagus near its end.
