( Fig. 248)
Description. Forewings 2.2 times longer than wide, length in male 5.5–6.1 mm. Colour stramineous, light brown on mesonotum. Forewings not powdered, with bands of infuscation lining most veins, rest of wing colourless but near posterior apical margin faintly infuscated; veins brown, reddish brown to red in anterior apical part. Hindwings colourless, veins light brown. Facial carinae contiguous up to lower margin of eyes; rostrum reaching hind coxae; subantennal processes well -, lateral carinae of pronotum poorly developed. Forewings with apical part of Sc sinuate; Sc+R fork well before middle of wing; Ms1 branched in its basal third, Ms1b merging with apical part of Cu1 for a short section, a small triangle at base of Ms1. Pygofer of male genitalia with a pair of prominent, sharply pointed lateral projections. Genital styles widening towards end; proximal dorsal process small, distal dorsal process elongated, a small hump between both. Aedeagus with apical portion bearing two prominent pointed processes and some fine spines at the base of these.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective ( reticulatus , -a, -um = net-like).
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 5.5 mm), MALAYSIA : NORTH BORNEO; labels: 1) B.N. Borneo / Mt. Kinabalu, / Lumu Lumu / 5.500 ft. / 13:4:1929 1A) H.M. Pendlebury / coll./ F.M.S. Museums 2) Ex F.M.S. R8 / Museum / B.M. 1955-354 ( BMNH) . Paratype. SARAWAK, Mt. Kinabalu , Kamborangah, 7000 ft., 1 ♂ (fw. 6.1), 30. III .1929, H.M. Pendlebury ( BMNH) .
Distribution. North Borneo.
Diagnosis. Rhotana reticulata resembles R. cribraria sp. nov., also from Borneo and R. torrevillasi Zelazny from the Philippines. However, it is larger than both species, has a different forewing pattern, and no marks on the hindwings. The males can be easily recognized by the two pointed apical processes of the aedeagus.
