Rhotana fuscofasciata Distant, 1906 View in CoL
Rhotana fuscofasciata Distant, 1906: 312 View in CoL , Fig. 152
( Figs. 40, 202)
Redescription. Forewings 2.2 times longer than wide, length about 5.7 mm. Colour stramineous to light brown; forewings glassy; lightly infuscated along most veins; slightly darker infuscations near hind margin, between tips of Cu and Cu1, and along anterior apical crossveins; veins stramineous to light brown; apices of Sc, R, and adjoining vein sections orange-red; costal margin partly orange-red. Hindwings with a dark brown elongated, but irregular mark around both median sectors and a very small dark brown mark at apex of claval vein; faintly infuscated in centre and along apex of R. Facial carinae contiguous up to lower margin of eyes; rostrum short; subantennal processes large, lateral carinae of pronotum little developed. Forewings with Sc+R fork just distad of basal third of wing; a triangle at base of Ms1, Ms1 branched near the end of its basal third, Ms1b touching apical part of Cu1. Male genitalia with pygofer produced at the sides. Genital styles oval; proximal dorsal process short and slender; distal dorsal process long; a small hump between both processes. Stem of aedeagus swollen at junction with apical part; apical part short, deflected, with a deep, dorsal, longitudinal groove; the sides extending into two short, apical lobes.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (fuscofasciatus, -a, -um = with a dark stripe).
Type material. Lectotype ♂ (here designated) (forewing 5.7 mm, body 2.5 mm), SRI LANKA; labels: 1) Type / H. T. 2) Rhotana / fuscofasciata/ type/ Dist. 3) MASKELIYA, /CEYLON, /SEPTEMBER 4) Distant Coll./ 1911-383 ( BMNH).
Note. Distant described this species from an unspecified number of specimens from " Ceylon; Maskeliya". We designate the only available specimen in the BMNH (which also bears a type label) as lectotype .
Distribution. Sri Lanka.
Diagnosis. Rhotana fuscofasciata resembles R. hirashimai sp. nov. from Borneo in structure and coloration. It can be recognized by the lack of a red mark around the last subcostal sector of the forewings, the shape and position of the hindwing marks, by the shorter lateral projections of the male pygofer and by the shape of the apical part of the male aedeagus.
