Description. Forewings about 5.9 mm long with Ms1 branched slightly distad of apex of basal median cell. Hindwings mutilated. Pygofer with lateral projections inconspicuous. Male genitalia with apical part of aedeagus ending in two long, flat processes, each with two short, pointed tips.
Note. Externally like Rhotana ramosa sp. nov. The description above has been shortened, due to this similarity.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (ferus, -a, -um = wild).
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 5.0 mm), MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO; labels: 1) BRITISH N. BORNEO / W. Coast Residen-/ cy, Ranau , 500m / IX-28 – X-7-1958 2) T. C. Maa / Collector / BISHOP ( BPBM).
Distribution. North Borneo.
Diagnosis. Rhotana fera is externally indistinguishable from R. ramosa sp. nov. from Sumatra and R. tridentata sp. nov. from Borneo and West Malaysia. The males can be easily recognized by the aedeagus ending in two long and flat processes which are furcate at the ends.
