Description. Forewings 2.1 times longer than wide, about 3.6 mm long. Colour of head stramineous but frons, clypeus and apical segment of labium dark brown, thorax and fore- and middle coxae dark brown, rest of legs stramineous but apices of fore- and middle femora, apices of all tibiae and apex of middle tarsi tinted with red; abdomen dark red. Forewings fuscous, powdered, a triangular lighter area between hind margin and base of Ms2, apical eighth of forewing also lighter; veins brown to stramineous, costal margin orange. Hindwings light brown. Rostrum reaching end of abdomen; antennae elongated. Forewings with Sc+R fork in basal quarter; Ms1 branched well before its middle, bases of Ms1 and Cu1 connected by a cross-vein. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles widening towards end which is obliquely truncated, dorsal processes slender and separated. Apical part of aedeagus flat, with a dorsal impression, ending in two short lobes.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (interruptus, -a, -um = interrupted).
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.6 mm, body 1.9 mm), LAOS; labels: 1) LAOS: Vientiane / Prov., Gi Sion/ Vill., de Tha Ngone / 19–26.XII 1965 2) Native/ Collector/ BISHOP ( BPBM).
Distribution. Laos
Diagnosis. Alara interrupta shows similarities to A. armilla sp. nov. from New Guinea and A. dux Distant from Sri Lanka. It is characterized by the forewings having a white, triangular mark near the hind margin and by the shape of the male genitalia.
