Tomoderus abditus nom. nov.

Tomoderus flavus Uhmann, 1981: 188 (not Tomoderus (Pseudotomoderus) flavus Heberdey, 1936b: 254 )

Notes

Heberdey (1936b) described Tomoderus (Pseudotomoderus) flavus from "Südost-Borńeo" ( Indonesia) ( Heberdey 1937: 284). This subgenus was first treated as a distinct genus by Bonadona (1961: 70), and this species was later cited as Pseudotomoderus flavus by Telnov (1998a, 2004, 2005a). Uhmann (1981) created a primary homonym when he described Tomoderus flavus from Tanzania, which is known only from the description. The replacement name Tomoderus abditus nom. nov. is here proposed for the Tanzanian species, and is based on the Latin adjective for concealed (" abditus ").

It is important to stress that Heberdey's paper was in a "Festschrift" that was published in two issues ( Heberdey 1936b, 1937) at separate times, despite the continuous pagination, as is stated also on the title page of the volume: "Pag. 1--256, mit 23 Tafeln und 29 Textfiguren, am 31.XII.1936 erschienen. Der Rest des Bandes am 16.IV.1937 erschienen". All new species described in this revision must be dated 1936, since all are included in the identification key, but most of the formal descriptions appear in 1937.
