Aulacoderus controversus nom. nov.

Anthicus (Aulacoderus) singularis Hille, 1985: 112 (not Anthicus singularis Pic, 1927: 25 )

Notes

Pic (1927) first described Anthicus singularis from Argentina. Hille (1985) followed by describing the homonym Anthicus (Aulacoderus) singularis from South Africa. Both species are known only on the basis of the descriptions. Aulacoderus is now recognized as a valid genus (see above under Anthicus dravidiacus ), whereas Pic's species is still placed in the genus Anthicus sensu lato ( Blackwelder 1945) . The replacement name Aulacoderus controversus nom. nov. is proposed for the African species, and is based on the Latin adjective for controversial (" controversus "), referring to the fact that this species lacks the basal pronotal groove typical of most species of Aulacoderus .
