Tribus Incertae Sedis

(from Evans 1955 Carystus group)

Perichares philetes philetes (Gmelin, [1790])

Carystus corydon Fabricius : Crowfoot (1893) [misspelling of coridon, preoccupied]

Perichares corydon (Fabricius) : Kaye (1904, no. 284), Kaye (1921, no. 450), Barcant (1970, no. 603) [misspelling of coridon, preoccupied]

Perichares philetes (Gmelin) View in CoL : Box (1953), Beccaloni et al. (2008)

Perichares philetes philetes (Gmelin) View in CoL : Evans (1955), Cock (1982, no. 213), Cock (2005)

Although Mielke (2004) treats P. philetes View in CoL as having subspecies, Warren et al. (2014) treat it as monotypic. The discovery by Burns et al. (2008) that in Costa Rica there is a complex of at least four species treated as P. philetes View in CoL certainly indicates that P. philetes View in CoL needs reevaluation throughout its range, so the subspecies question is considered open and left unchanged for now.

Perichares philetes group (palm feeder)

Burns et al. (2008) divided P. philetes into four species in Costa Rica, two feeding on grasses and two on palms, and pointed out that there must be at least two species treated under this name in Trinidad since both food plant groups are used ( Cock 2005).

Perichares lotus (Butler, 1870)

Perichares heroni Kaye View in CoL : Kaye (1904, no. 285) TL, Draudt (1921 –1924) [synonym]

Perichares lotus (Butler) View in CoL : Kaye (1904, no. 286), Kaye (1921, no. 448), Evans (1955), Barcant (1970, no. 601), Cock (1982, no. 214), Cock (2005)

Orses cynisca (Swainson, 1821) View in CoL

Carystus cynisca (Swainson) : Crowfoot (1893)

Orses cynisca (Swainson) View in CoL : Godman and Salvin (1893 –1901), Kaye (1904, no. 283), Kaye (1921, no. 444), Evans (1955), Barcant (1970, no. 591), Cock (1982, no. 216), Cock (2005), Beccaloni et al. (2008)

(from Evans 1955 Calpodes View in CoL group)

Pyrrhopygopsis socrates (Ménétriés, 1885) orasus (Druce, 1876)

f. orasus (Druce1876)

f. socrates (Ménétriés, 1885)

Pyrrhopygopsis socrates (Ménétriés) View in CoL : Kaye (1921, no. 453), Barcant (1970, no. 592)

Pyrrhopygopsis socrates orasus (Druce) View in CoL f. orasus: Evans (1955)

Pyrrhopygiopsis socrates orasus (Druce): Cock (1982, no. 272), Cock (2003a) [misspelling of genus] Pyrrhopygopsis socrates orasus (Druce) View in CoL : Beccaloni et al. (2008)

Although f. socrates View in CoL seems to be the normal form in Trinidad, f. orasus also occurs ( Cock 2003a).
