Hydropsyche harpagofalcata Mey 1995 View in CoL , NEW RECORD FOR INDIA
( Figs. 21–25 View FIGURES 21–30 )
Hydropsyche harpagofalcata Mey 1995 View in CoL , 216, figs. 19–21
Redescription of adult male: Color in alcohol light brown, covered with golden yellow pubescence, wings light brown, dorsum of head dark brown, with 9 dark brown setal warts. Length from tip of head to apices of folded forewings 12.25 mm; length of each antenna 12 mm; maxillary palps each 1.5 mm long, 2nd segment longer than 3rd and 4th together, 5th segment as long as segments 1st–4th together; labial palps each 0.75 mm long. Length of each forewing 11 mm (n = 2); length of each hind wing 8.25 mm.
Male genitalia ( Figs. 21–25 View FIGURES 21–30 ): Abdominal segment IX longitudinally short, anterolateral margins convex; dorsomedian keel directed posterad, digitate in dorsal view, dorsally and laterally granulose, positioned posteriorly; anteroventral margin straight, anterodorsal margin notched in dorsal view; posterolateral lobe on each side round, posterior spine row not continuous with setal row on posterolateral slope of median keel. Depression between segment IX and tergum X U-shaped. Body of tergum X longitudinally short, nearly quadrangular in lateral view; quadrate in dorsal view; apicoventral setose lobes modified into rounded projections directed posterad in lateral and dorsal views, setae present on dorsal surface; dorsal interlobular gap minute. Inferior appendages each 2- segmented, basal segment (coxopodite), long, broad basally, slightly dilating distally from mid length in lateral view; almost straight in ventral view; apical segment (harpago) very small, acute apically in lateral view; curved mesad in ventral view. Phallic apparatus simple, convex ventrally then concave for short distance subapically in lateral view; endotheca with pair of broad, incurved, acute apices in ventral view.
Material Examined: INDIA: Uttarakhand: Karanparyag , 900 m, 20-vi-2008, 2 males, Pandher & Parey, NPC .
Diagnosis: This species is similar to Hydropsyche napaea Mey 1996 ( Vietnam) and H. askalaphos Malicky & Chantaramongkol 2000 ( Thailand) . In H. harpagofalcata Mey , the dorsomedian keel of segment IX is much more produced and rounded apically whereas it is wide and broad in H. askalaphos . The shape of segment IX is quite similar in H. harpagofalcata and H. napaea in lateral view. However, the rounded dorsomedian keel of segment IX and the shape of the apical part of the phallus (width twice its length) in H. harpagofalcata makes the latter distinct from H. napaea in which dorsomedian keel is pointed and the apical part of the phallus is twice as long as wide.
Distribution: Vietnam; Thailand; India: Uttarakhand.
