Hydropsyche curvata sp. nov.
( Figs. 16–20 View FIGURES 11–20 )
Description of adult male: Color in alcohol dark brown, covered with scattered pubescence, dorsum of head dark brown. Length from tip of head to apices of folded forewings about 12.50 mm; maxillary palps each 2.5 mm long, 2nd segment twice as long as 3rd, 5th about as long as 1st–4th together; labial palps each 0.97 mm long. Length of each forewing about 11 mm (n = 5). Hind wings each about 8.25 mm.
Male genitalia ( Figs. 16–20 View FIGURES 11–20 ): Abdominal segment IX longitudinally short, anterolaterally convex in lateral view; dorsomedian keel roundly produced in lateral and dorsal views, arising from rounded dorsum IX, granulose. Posterolateral lobe on each side triangular, setose, in continuity with posterolateral slope of keel. Slight V-shaped depression visible in lateral view between segment IX and tergum X. Body of tergum X short, nearly quadrangular in lateral and dorsal views; apicoventral setose lobes modified into small rounded lobes in lateral view; short, curved mesad and pointed apically in dorsal view; apicodorsal setose lobe medially place just above keel; dorsal interlobular gap defined by apicoventral lobes very narrow. Inferior appendages each long, basal segment dilated, broad apically, setose, slightly curved mesad in ventral view; apical segment very small, broad basally; curved mesad in ventral view. Phallic apparatus complex, broad basally; endotheca with pair of small preapical spines directed laterad in ventral view and 2 long curved spines apically.
Holotype: Male, INDIA: Jammu and Kashmir: Yusmarg , 2200 m, 1-viii-2009, Pandher & Parey, NPC .
Paratypes: 4 males, collection data same as for holotype ( NPC).
Diagnosis: This species belongs to the Hydropsyche pulvialis Group. It is very similar to Hydropsyche decora Navás 1932 and H. trimonticola Mey 1996 (both from Vietnam) in the general plan of the male genitalia (the shape of segment IX in lateral view, the wide body of tergum X, and the shape of the phallus). However, the very small dorsal interlobular gap of tergum X, the apically broad basal segment of each inferior appendage in lateral view, and the broadly rounded median keel of tergum X in dorsal view in H. curvata sp. nov. are distinctive.
Distribution: India: Jammu and Kashmir.
Etymology: This species is named with reference to the curved apical segment of each inferior appendage.
