Habitat and distribution:— Curtia tenuifolia is distributed throughout the American continent, with the exception of North America, having been collected in areas of “campo limpo”, “campo rupestre”, Cerrado and “Amazonian savanna” ( Crespo & Marcondes-Ferreira 2009, Siqueira et al. 2014, Bissoli & Calió 2020). In Brazil, it has confirmed occurrences for the states of Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Pará, Roraima, Bahia, Maranhão, Pernambuco, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina ( Bissoli & Calió 2020) ( Fig. 3D View FIGURE 3 , Appendix 1).

Comments:—This is the only species of the genus that presents heterostyly, its flowers being tristylous. In addition, the variation in color and flower size justify the several synonyms of this species (Crespo & Marcondes- Ferreira 2009, Siqueira et al. 2014). Found with flowers and fruits all year round ( Crespo & Marcondes-Ferreira 2009, Siqueira et al. 2014).

Specimens examined:— BRAZIL. Bahia: Mucugê, Centro do Projeto Sempre Viva, trilha para o Tiburtino , próximo aos Rios Piabinha e Cumbuca , 25 March 2000, fl., A . M Giulietti 1950 ( HUEFS!) .
