Type species: Compterosmittia dentispina Saether, 1981 , by original designation.

Emended generic diagnosis. Based on the material presently examined and the data referred, the generic diagnosis of male Compterosmittia given by Mendes et al. (2004) can be emended as follows: “pseudospurs lacking” should be changed to “pseudospurs often lacking, sometimes present’’ (present on ta3 and ta4 of mid and hind legs in C. procera sp. n.); “the male antenna has 10 or 13 flagellomeres” should be changed to 10, 12 ( C. duodecima sp. n.) or 13 flagellomeres.
