Paropesia nigra Mesnil, 1970: 121 View in CoL .
Diagnosis. Small black flies, abdomen with very narrow thin whitish band on 3rd to 5th tergites; palpus dark brown; gena less than 2/5 of eye height; antenna with 1st flagellomere about 2.6 times as long as pedicel; hind tibia with 2 preapical dorsal setae; abdominal syntergite 1+2 without median marginal setae, no median discal setae on 3rd and 4th tergites.
Mesnil (1970) described this species in detail from a single female. Here are given some additional characters.
Description. Female. Vertex about 0.25 of head width; frontal vitta widened anteriorly, about 1.4 times as wide as fronto-orbital plate at middle; parafacial about 2/3 as wide as 1st flagellomere at middle height; gena about 0.38 of eye height; lower margin of face rather weakly warped forward; outer vertical seta fine; ocellar seta fine, subequal in length to outer vertical seta; 1 prevertical and 2 proclinate orbital setae; lowest frontal seta nearly level with base of pedicel; fronto-orbital plate with rather sparse short black hairs, 1–2 hairs descending below lowest frontal seta; antenna falling short of lower margin of face by about length of pedicel; antenna with 1st flagellomere about 2.6 times as long as pedicel; palpus dark brown. Relative lengths of costal sectors 2nd, 3rd and 4th approximately as 3:7.5:3.5; vein M from dm-cu crossvein to its bend about 1.5 times distance between the bend and wing margin. Legs black; mid tibia with 1 anterodorsal, 2 posterodorsal and 1 ventral setae; hind tibia with 2 preapical dorsal setae; claws and pulvilli slightly shorter than 5th tarsomere. Abdomen black in ground color, with thin grayish pruinosity on anterior portion of each tergite, shining black on major portion of 4th and 5th tergites; syntergite 1+2 without median marginal setae; 3rd tergite with one pair of median marginal setae which is slightly inserted anteriorly; 4th and 5th tergites each with a row of marginal setae, without distinct discal setae. Body length: 7 mm.
Type material examined: Holotype female, Kambaiti, 2000 m, N. E. Burma [ Myanmar], 24.v.1934, R. Malaise (FMNHH).
Distribution. Myanmar.
Remarks. This species is distinct among members of this genus in lacking the median marginal setae on the abdominal syntergite 1+2 and median discal setae on 3rd and 4th tergites, and having a broadly shining black abdomen.
