Atemtanais Bird, 2011 View in CoL
Atemtanais: Bird (2011) View in CoL : 17 View Cited Treatment –18.
Diagnosis [additional to Bird 2011). Antennule article-2 PSS short. Antenna articles 2–4 without longitudinal ridge. Mandible body smooth. Cheliped palm with kukri-shaped sinuate spine. Pereopods 2–3 carpus inferior pair of spines stout [as long as broad], subequal. Pereopods 4–6 carpus without elevated rows of spinules on inferior margin.
Distribution. New Zealand, sublittoral.
Remarks. A robust paratanaid genus characterised by the antenna article-3 bearing a stiff seta rather than an acute spine, pleonites only with simple lateral setae, and very short uropods. The short inferodistal spines on the carpus of pereopods 2–3 and the lack of clinging apparatus on the carpus of pereopods 4–6 are also distinctive characters, although the last is shared by another new paratanaid genus [see below]. A single species is known, A. taikaha Bird, 2011 , from New Zealand.
