Uroderma bilobatum Peters, 1866 View in CoL
Peters, W. C. H. (1866) Mittheilung über neue oder ungenügend bekannte Flederthiere ( Vampyrops , Uroderma , Chiro-
derma, Ametrida , Tylostoma , Vespertilio , Vesperugo ) und Nager ( Tylomys , Lasiomys ). Monatsberichte der Königlich Preussischen Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin, 1866: 394 [392–403].
Valid name: Uroderma bilobatum Peters, 1866
Type species of genus Uroderma Peters, 1866 .
Lectotype (designated by Andersen 1908: 220): ZMB 411, skin and skull, subadult; Sao Paulo, Brazil [= restricted type locality, see Andersen 1908: 220]; collected by Sellow.
Paralectotypes: ZMB 409 View Materials , skin and skull, male, adult . ZMB 410 View Materials , skin, skull not extracted, male, adult. Both specimens from Cayenne, French Guyana; collected by Delbruk, in exchange from Rüppell .
Comment: Andersen (1908: 220) considered one young specimen from Sao Paulo, Brazil at ZMB as “the type” but also mentioned two adult specimens from Cayenne at ZMB. All three specimens were considered as syntypes by Carter & Dolan (1978: 51). ZMB 409-410 was originally registered in the general catalogue as “ Artibeus lineatus Gervais Ph. lineatum Geoffr. ”. These names were later canceled, probably by Peters, and substituted by “ Artibeus (Uroderma) lineatus ” and finally by the new species name. ZMB 411 was originally registered in the general catalogue as " var. personatus Natterer " [stated by Peters (1865: 587–588) as Ph. personatum Wagner ]. Andersen (1908: 220) restricted the type locality to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Cabrera (1958: 79) later restricted the type locality to Ipanema, Sao Paulo, Brazil, however, this locality was not associated with any of Peters’ original specimens.
