Valid name: Chrotopterus auritus (Peters, 1856)

Holotype or Syntype: ZMB 10058, body in alcohol, skull not extracted; Mexico; collected by Deppe, between 1825 and 1827 .

Comment: The description is based on one ore more specimens, for which Mexico is the restricted type locality according to Peters (1856: 415). Carter & Dolan (1978: 37) incorrectly considered ZMB 3755 View Materials as “ holotype or syntype ”, a specimen from Santa Catarina, Brazil, leg. H. Burmeister, between 1850 and 1852 .
