Vesperus View in CoL hösemanni Matschie, label name

Valid name: Neoromicia cf. tenuipinnis (Peters, 1872)

Referred specimen: ZMB 10096, body in alcohol, skull extracted, male, adult; Ujiji, Lake Tanganyika , Tanganyika, Tanzania; collected by Hösemann , 1897.

Comment: The oldest label bears a type marking and the following inscription: “ Vesperus hösemanni Mtsch., Ujiji, [No.] 10096, leg. Hösemann”. This species name apparently has never been published. We only tentatively refer it to N. tenuipinnis here.

Types assumed to be in the ZMB collections

Choeronycteris peruana Tschudi, 1844 (= synonym of Anoura geoffroyi Gray, 1838 ): According to Carter & Dolan (1978: 134) there might be an original specimen in the ZMB (presumably lost); however, there is no evidence of this in the collections. Peters (1868) mentioned that the type of peruana should have been at the museum in Neuchâtel, but that it could not be found there .
