Colopodacus glochidion n. sp.
( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 )
Description. Female: (n = 10) Body spindleform, ivory-white, 175 (171−182) long, 78 (76−81) wide, 66 (65−68) thick. Gnathosoma 20 (19−21), projecting obliquely down, dorsal pedipalp genual setae (d) 4 (4−5).
Prodorsal shield without frontal lobe; 49 (48−51) long, 78 (76−80) wide; median, admedian and submedian lines complete; four transverse lines connected median, admedian and submedian lines forming network. Scapular tubercles ahead of rear margin, 43 (42−44) apart, scapular setae (sc) 12 (11−13), directed posterolaterally. Coxal area with granules, coxae І with sternal line, anterolateral setae on coxisternum (1b) 3 (3−4), proximal setae on coxisternum І (1a) 4 (4−5), proximal setae on coxisternum ІІ (2a) 16 (15−17). Legs І 28 (27−29), femur 10 (9−10), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 4 (4−5); genu 4 (3−4), antaxial genual setae (l'') 30 (29−31); tibiae fused with tarsi; tarsus 9 (9−10); tarsal empodium 5 (5−6), simple, 4-rayed, tarsal solenidion 5 (5−6), knobbed. Legs ІІ 25 (24−26), femur 9 (9−10), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 19 (18−20); genu 4 (3−4), antaxial genual setae (l'') 7 (6−7); tibiae fused with tarsi; tarsus 7 (7−8); tarsal empodium 6 (6−7), simple, 4- rayed, tarsal solenidion 10 (9−11), knobbed. Opisthosoma: dorsum with a weak and narrow median furrow bordered by submedian ridges, dorsal annuli 36 (35−38), smooth; ventral annuli 41 (39−43), with filamentous microtubercles; setae c2 21 (20−23), on ventral annulus 8 (7−8); setae d 44 (42−46), on ventral annulus 17 (17−18); setae e 8 (7−8), on ventral annulus 28 (27−29); setae f 14 (13−15), on 6th ventral annulus from rear; seta h2 41 (38−44), setae h1 absent. Female genitalia 19 (19−20) long, 24 (24−25) wide, coverflap with granules, proximal setae on coxisternum ІІІ (3a) 6 (6−7).
Male: Not seen.
Type data: Holotype, female, Jinzhongshan Nature Reserve, 37 km SW of Longlin County (24°8N, 105°34E), Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, 0 1-Dec.-2004, from Glochidion sp. ( Euphorbiaceae ), collected by De-Wei LI, Sui-Gai WEI and Guo-Quan WANG. Paratypes, 19 females, with the same data as holotype.
Relation to host: The mites are vagrant on the undersurface of leaves, no visible damage symptom.
Note: This species is similar to Colopodacus insulanaus Huang & Wang, 2003 , but can be differentiated by the prodorsal shield design with median and admedian lines complete and the tarsal empodium is 4-rayed. In C. insulanaus , the shield design has a median line and admedian lines on the basal 1/5 to basal 4/5, and the tarsal empodium is 7-rayed.
Etymology: The species name is derived from the generic name of the host plant.
