Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 3.26–3.34mm; female, 2.92mm. Width, male, 1.85mm; female, 1.57mm. As for T. confusa but scales on pronotum less dense, more concentrated in anterior half and with scales of elytral intervals sparse, not overlapping. Aedeagus as in Fig. 193 View FIGURES 193–195 .

Geographical distribution. México (Veracruz).

Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of leaf and log litter at an elevation of 975m.

Derivation of specific name. Noun in apposition; from the Greek gaia , the Earth.

Material examined. 2♂, 1♀ ( CWOB, MCZC). Holotype ♂ ( MCZC): MÉXICO. Veracruz. Canyon Rio Metlac, near Fortín , 3200ft, 28.VII.–1. VIII.1973 / leaf & log litter / A. Newton collector / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete gaia sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratype: MÉXICO. Veracruz. Canyon Rio Metlac (near Fortín), 3200', 28.VII.–1.VIII.1973, A. Newton, leaf and log litter (1♀ MCZC; 1♂ CMNC) .

Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. thibodeaui .
