E t y m o l o g y. Bonanza (the nearest town to the fossil occurrences in northeastern Utah) plus carpum (fruit).
D i a g n o s i s. Fruit a tabular 4–6 sided circumscissile capsule. Capsule unilocular, with closely fitting operculum. Basal surface of locule with 7–11 obpyriform raised areas radiating from a central point and pointing proximally.
