Type material. Syntype, sex unknown: [small red square label]; [small yellow label]; [rectangular red label]; “ Cyphon / pictus Motsch / Mt. Nura El. Ceylon ” [yellow rectangular label, handwritten]; deposited in ZMUM. Syntype (severly damaged), sex unknown: “ Cyphon / pictus Motsch / Mt. Nura El. Ceylon ” [yellow rectangular label, handwritten].
Note. This species belongs to the Melyridae : Rhadalinae , probably Malthacodes Waterhouse. A “variety” described by M. Pic, Cyphon pictus v. ceylonicus Pic is a true scirtid, showing no affinities with Cyphon pictus Motschulsky (author’s unpublished data).
