REMARKS
Herbarium and types of Backer are at PAS and BO, duplicates of PAS are at L ( Stafleu & Cowan 1976). PAS is today at BO. There was no response to our inquiry from BO. The type was collected from Java, where it occurred here and there ( Backer 1924). According to Hotta (1989) M.chiliocarpa is synonymous to M. acuminata Colla , but merely represents a cultivated seedless AAB-banana ( Simmonds 1960b). Its currently used cultivar name is “Thousand fingers”.
