Remarks. This species was referred to Gnathophis nystromi in most previous works. However, Castle (1963) first suggested and Karmovskaya (2004) later confirmed that G. n y s t ro m i is a junior synonym of G. heterognathos , which has not previously been used for the Taiwanese specimens.
