Accepted name. Senna multijuga var. verrucosa (Vogel) H.S. Irwin & Barneby (1982: 496) .

Notes. According to Hooker et al. (1849), Vogel described several new species based on specimens from the Berlin Herbarium (B), especially Brazilian species. Cassia verrucosa was described by Vogel (1837: 38) based on the collection Sellow s.n. from Brazil. The holotype deposited at the Berlin Herbarium (B) was probably destroyed during World War II. A photograph of the specimen is available in the negatives collection of the Field Museum (F), under number F-1767. During our research we found eight specimens of the collection Sellow s.n. from Brazil that are deposited in the following herbaria: E, F, FI, G, K, P and W. The specimen deposited at the Kew Herbarium (K), under barcode K000056187, which is the best preserved, includes the characters used in the original description, and has Vogel handwritten notes referring to Cassia verrucosa , is being designated here as the lectotype.
