Allocapnia aurora Ricker View in CoL
is limited to small, mostly forested or rural coldwater creeks in the lower Susquehanna River basin and the extreme eastern portion of the Potomac River basin in southcentral Pennsylvania. Allocapnia aurora was previously confirmed from only 10 Pennsylvania creeks ( Masteller 1996). Although not as rare as certain other Pennsylvania Allocapnia , it is included here to correct earlier misidentifications. Males can be difficult to separate from A. pygmaea and A. nivicola . Male Allocapnia from Indian Creek in Westmoreland County and French Creek in Chester County that were identified as A. aurora ( Earle 1994 and 2003) were actually A. nivicola . The A. aurora records from Muddy Creek in York County ( Masteller 1996) were also misidentified and were actually A. pygmaea .
