Agaricus purpureofuscus Peck (1885: 85)

Description:—Pileus 6–32 mm in diameter, conical to campanulate, with obtuse umbonate in young stages, sulcate, translucent-striate, glabrous, dull violet (11E3–11E4), dark purple (11E5–11E6), with fuscous tinge in the centre (6F7– 6F8), and margin with lilac shade. Context thin but cartilaginous, purplish-gray (12D2) becoming pallid (12C1) to cream white (12B1). Lamellae adnate to adnex, with a short tooth, interveined indistinctly, whitish to grayish (6A1– 6B1), edge deep violet distinctly (8F8). Stipe 35–85 × 1.5–2.5 mm, cylindric, fragile, hollow, pruinose to glabrescent towards the base, violet-brown (10E3), base usually somewhat darker brown (8E6) and covered with white fibrils. Odor and taste indistinct or slight raphanoid.

Basidiospores (6.9)9.2–11.8 × (5.7)6.5–7.9 μm, Q=1.2–1.5, broadly elliptic, colorless but abundant drops, smooth, thin walled, amyloid. Basidia clavate, 25–34 × 8–11 μm, contents transparent, with 4 sterigmata, colorless but abundant drops, septa without clamps. Cheilocystidia33–57× 9–25μm, abundant and variably shaped, clavate, fusiform, utriform, or apically broadly rounded, with violet-brown (8F8) contents, forming a deeper clumpy pigment, unclamped at the base. Pleurocystidia absent. Hyphae of the pileipellis 2–7 μm across, with irregular warts or outgrowths, cylindrical excrescences, 2.4–12.7 × 1.5–3.9 μm, lilac-brown (7F8) colored, thin walled, clamp connections absent. Stipitipellis consist of 2–5 μm wide, filled in light pale violet (9E4) contents, sparsely diverticulate, 1.5–1.9 × 0.9–1.5 μm. Clamps generally absent or very rare.

Habitat:—Solitary or scattered, in coniferous forests, litter layer of Pinus or Larix .

Known distribution:— China, Asia ( Aravindakshan 2015), Europe ( Robich 2003, Aronsen & Laessøe 2016), North America ( Smith 1947; Perry 2002).
