Type:—[fossil leaves] Saint-Jean-de-Garguier, Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, France (holotype, not found).
Occurrence:—Lower Oligocene (Rupelian); Eurasia (Europe).
Eponymy:—Similar to extant Ilex opaca Aiton (1789: 169) .

Notes:—The homonymy between Ilex microdonta Saporta (1865a: 131) and Ilex microdonta Heer (1869a: 96) was resolved by Schimper in proposing of a new replacement name for Heer’s fossil-species, Ilex parvidens Schimper (1874: 766 , 896). However, the homonymy between Ilex microdonta Saporta (1865a: 131) and extant Ilex microdonta Reissek (1861: 41) was still not noticed, and therefore, a new replacement name is proposed and validated here.
