9. Talaroneis sp. Figs 9, 10 View FIGURES 9–22
Samples: Moen1_ Halimeda, Moen 1_ Sargassum
Dimensions: 32.2–37.1 μm long, 7.8–8.1 μm wide; 26 striae in 10 μm, 27 areolae in 10 μm apically.
Diagnostics: Valves linear-lanceolate with rostrate apices, with subapical furrow characteristic of the genus, but with a strauros and possibly a septum in the central area.
Comments: This combination of Talaroneis and Plagiogramma characters is quite unlike any of the three Talaroneis species described so far ( Kooistra et al. 2004), ( Li et al. 2015) and this is almost certainly a new species. Stidolph et al. (2012), pl. 43, fig. 121; pl. 54, fig. 28) also shows valves with this combination of characters but they are strongly constricted; He identifies it “with some doubt” as Glyphodesmis nancoorense (Grunow) Kolbe but as with ours, the subapical furrows are very clear.
