Type Series. H o l o t y p e (E U M J): 1 m a l e, “ Caroline Islands ”, “ Truk Ils.”, “Dublon I. XII-22- ‘35”, “ Z. Ono Coll’ r.”. Paratype: 1 male ( EUMJ), same data as holotype .

Description. Male. Body oval, hemispherical, strongly convex dorsally, strongly shiny. Coloration of body black; antennomeres I–VIII and mouth parts blackish brown; antennomeres IX–XI (club) yellowish brown. Head: Large, frontal margin arcuate, densely covered with fine punctures. Eyes large, prominent. Mentum ( Fig. 3 View Figs ) subquadrate, rugose, coarsely punctate ( Fig. 4 View Figs ). Thorax: Pronotum glabrous; antero-lateral corners projecting anteriorly, right-angled; anterior margin straight; lateral and posterior margins gently arcuate; PW/PL 2.13–2.30. Scutellum equilateral-triangular, glabrous. Elytra widest at basal 1/4, highest at basal 1/3; microsculpture of disc ( Fig. 5 View Figs ) with fine punctures and vague reticulation; EL/EW 1.10–1.11; EL/PL 2.95–3.17; EW/PW 1.24–1.26; TL/EW 1.46–1.48. Abdomen: Intercoxal process of abdominal ventrite I rounded; abdominal ventrites I–II ( Fig. 6 View Figs ) with deep grooves to receive hind legs. Tergite VIII well-sclerotized, semicircular, sparsely covered with short (in posterior part) and minute (in anterior part) setae, mesal part with minute, close-set spines; sternite VIII well-sclerotized, fanshaped, posterior margin deeply notched, bearing minute setae and spines; tergite IX moderately sclerotized, with 1 pair of apodemes, bearing minute setae in posterior part; sternite IX well-sclerotized, widest at posterior 1/3, gently tapered basally, truncate at posterior margin, bearing short setae on posterior margin and minute spines posteriorly; tergite X moderately sclerotized, with 1 median apodeme, bearing minute spines in posterior part. Aedeagus about 0.8 mm long, 2.6 times as long as sternite VIII, 3.6 times as long as phallobase, notched at apex, with very long and straight apodemes; phallobase subparallel in apical 1/2, basal margin arcuate; parameres long, gently tapered apically, 2.5 times as long as phallobase, rather curved interiorly, apices obtuse and ventrally with 1 pair of short setae, densely punctate.

Female. Unknown.

Measurements. Male (n = 2):TL= 6.13–6.25 mm; PW = 3.30–3.45 mm; PL = 1.50–1.55 mm; EL = 4.58–4.75 mm; EW = 4.15–4.28 mm.

Remarks. This species is similar to Nosodendron prudeki Háva, 2000 known from southern Thailand. They have the parameres slightly curved inward and the aedeagus notched apically ( Háva 2000), but N. carolinense differs by the following characteristics: body larger, TL about 6.2 mm ( N. prudeki 4.8 mm); mentum evenly punctate ( N. prudeki with horseshoe-shaped impression); and parameres and aedeagus slender (stout in N. prudeki ). The new species is also similar to Nosodendron glabratum Champion, 1923 , known from the Solomon Islands, in having a glabrous dorsal surface ( Champion 1923), but is clearly distinguished from it by the smaller body size ( N. glabratum 8.0 mm) and punctation of mentum (impunctate in N. glabratum ). The new species clearly belongs to the N. coenosum species-group ( Háva 2005) by the absence of elytral tufts of setae.
