Dracaena oldupai Takawira-Nyenya & Mucina View in CoL , nom. nov.
≡ Sansevieria ehrenbergii Schweinf. ex Baker (1875: 549) View in CoL , basionym. Type:— SUDAN, Wady Ossir, South of Suakin, April 1865. Schweinfurth 31 (holotype: K).
Etymology:—From the Maasai word ‘oldupai’ or ‘oldupaai’, a name for various species formerly included in Sansevieria including the species here, which is common in the Oldupai (“Olduvai”) Gorge (the name of the gorge “Olduvai” is likely a misinterpretation of Oldupai, the name of the plant). We use it here as a noun in apposition.
Note:—The epithet ‘ ehrenbergii’ is preoccupied in Dracaena by D. ehrenbergii hort. ex Baker (1875: 538) .
