‘ Asterina View in CoL View at ENA ’ sp. 1

Material. One specimen, Grand Pate´, coral, 20 m; two specimens, Trou Malabar, coral rubble, 10 m.

Coloration. Mottled with red, magenta, cream and bluish grey (see figure 4 View FIGS ).

Comments. The three specimens range in size from R ~ 3.6 mm, r ~ 2.4 mm to R ~ 8.3 mm, r ~ 4.7 mm. Each has a single, prominent madreporite and five arms. Some minor differences can be seen in the abactinal spinulation, but all three bear one to three (usually two) spines on the actinal plates. Further differences include the occurrence of one (in the smallest specimen), two (in specimen R ~ 8.3 mm) or three (in specimen R ~ 7.5 mm) elongate, slender sub-oral spines. The specimens appear to most closely resemble small specimens of ‘ A. ’ coronata von Martens, 1866 , but lack the characteristic, prominent abactinal plates (see Fisher, 1919; H. L. Clark, 1938).
