Genus Selitrichodes Girault View in CoL

Selitrichodes Girault, 1913a: 104–105 View in CoL .

Type species: Selitrichodes fasciativentris Girault View in CoL , original designation. Stat. rev. Kim et al., 2008: 8–10.

Epomphaloides Girault, 1913b: 49–50 View in CoL . Type species Epomphaloides flavus Girault View in CoL , original designation. Synonymised by Kim et al., 2008: 8.

Zagrammosomoides Girault, 1913c: 177 View in CoL . Type species Zagrammosomoides fasciatus Girault View in CoL , original designation. Synonymised by Kim et al., 2008: 8.

Kim et al. (2008) resurrected Selitrichodes Girault from a long list of synonyms of Aprostocetus View in CoL by Bouček (1988) and also provided a diagnosis for the genus.

The present species is unique and runs close to different genera (like Aprostocetus Westwood , Oncastichus LaSalle and Baryscapus Foerster ) in generic keys by different workers, as discussed under the comments. It has also been compared with other related gall forming genera such as Moona Kim & La Salle , Quadrastichodella Girault and Leprosa Kim & La Salle.

According to the diagnosis by Kim et al. (2008) the present species can be accommodated fairly well in Selitrichodes , except for the character ‘3–5 dorsal setae on SMV’ instead of usually having between 1–3. Another species— S. casuarinae Fisher & La Salle also differs in this character by having 3–4 setae.

Presently 16 species are known under Selitrichodes ( Noyes 2019) S. auriflavus ( Girault, 1915) , casuarinae Fisher & La Salle, 2014 in Fisher et al. 2014, consobrinus ( Girault, 1913d), fasciativentris Girault, 1913a , flavus ( Girault, 1913b) , giraulti Kim & La Salle, 2008 in Kim et al. 2008, replacement name for Selitrichodes flavus ( Girault, 1913d) , globulus La Salle & Gates, 2009 in La Salle et al. 2009, kryceri Kim & La Salle, 2008 in Kim et al. 2008, multifasciatus ( Girault, 1915), neseri Kelly & La Salle, 2012 in Kelly et al., 2012, quinqnigrimaculae ( Girault, 1915), secus ( Girault, 1915) , tricolor ( Girault, 1915), utilis Fisher & La Salle, 2014 in Fisher et al. 2014, variegatus ( Girault, 1915), and varigatus Girault, 1913d.
