Subfamily SANTIAGOCARINAE new subfamily

Diagnosis

With the characteristics of the family. D orsal and ventral shield present. D orsum with a central plate and four pairs of small lateral plates. Lateral eyes not in capsules. ive pairs of lateroglandularia on the small lateral plates and three pairs of dorsoglandularia on the central plate as illustrated (gure 1). One more pair of dorsoglandularia is anterior to the central plate and another pair, dorsoglandularia 5 is on a small posterior sclerite that can be split in two parts or single. The illustration shows the homologies of the glandularia to other members of the family as illustrated in Lundblad (1941: 83, gure 39). The postocularia is on the rst small lateral plate, very close to lateroglandularia 1. A small lateral strip of lined integument is between the dorsal and ventral shield. Coxae in four groups. Genital eld with a pair of genital aps with numerous genital acetabula on them. Legs without swimming setae and claws with enlarged bases and clawlets. IV-Leg-4 is the longest segment. Chelicera stylet-like; palp ve-segmented and on a long tube of soft integument.

This new subfamily broadens the morphological concept of the family: Clathrosperchontinae has scattered plates in the dorsum and venter; Rhynchohydracarinae has plates that partially or totally cover the dorsum and venter (see the new subgenus of this subfamily below); Santiagocarinae has true dorsal and ventral shields.

T ype genus. Santiagocarus new genus ( Gledhillia new genus is also included).
