Subgenus Coibacarus new subgenus
Diagnosis
Characters of the subfamily Rhynchohydracarinae . Dorsal and ventral plates covering almost all the body surfaces but leaving wide gaps of lined integument. These plates homologous to those in Rhynchohydracarus s. str.
Speci c diVerences to the previously described Rhynchohydracarus are in the number and form of dorsal and ventral plates. In this new subgenus, besides variation
number and form of plates that may be assigned to speci c variation, there is a reduction in the size of plates that leave wide areas of free integument mainly in the dorsum but also in the venter.
T ype species. R hynchohydracarus (Coibacarus) carmenae new species.
Etymology. The subgenus refers to Coiba Island which has a well-preserved aquatic environment and a very diverse water mite fauna.
Rhynchohydracarus (Coibacarus) carmenae new species (gures 7–9)
Female. Dorsum almost covered by plates. There are three central plates, the middle one being the largest, and four pairs of lateral plates. Some additional small plates have dorsoglandularia as illustrated (gure 7). Body length: 52 Mm (580 Mm); width: 280 Mm (320 Mm). Three coxal groups. Number and location of ventral plates
illustrated (gure 8). Integument lined. Length genital area: 110 Mm (110 Mm); width: 110 Mm (110 Mm). D orsal length palp segments, P-I: 5 Mm (8 Mm); P-II: 48 Mm 50 Mm); P-III: 45 Mm (35 Mm); P-IV: 28 Mm (32 Mm); P-V: 10 Mm (18 Mm). Length of chelicera: 188 Mm (200 Mm).
M ale. Similar in morphology to female. Body dorsal length: 530 Mm; width: 270 Mm. Dorsal and ventral plates as in the female. Length genital area: 90 Mm; width: 98 Mm. Dorsal length palp segments (gure 9), P-I: 5 Mm; P-II: 48 Mm; P-III:
Mm; P-IV: 28 Mm; P-V: 15 Mm. Length of chelicera: 155 Mm.
