Oncocephalus enallus View in CoL nom. nov.
= Oncocephalus bipunctatus Livingstone & Ravichandran, 1990: 60 View in CoL . Junior primary homonym of Oncocephalus bipunctatus Villiers, 1952 View in CoL .
The relevant nomenclatural details are summarized as follows: Villiers (1952: 31) described Oncocephalus bipunctatus View in CoL as a new species from Angola. Thirty-eight years later, Livingstone & Ravichandran (1990: 60) described Oncocephalus bipunctatus View in CoL as a new species from southern India.
Livingstone & Ravichandran’s (1990) name is a junior primary homonym ( ICZN 1999, Art. 57.2), and it is here rejected. This species was described subsequently to either world catalog (i.e., Putshkov & Putshkov 1988b, Maldonado 1990), and no junior synonyms known to me exist for this taxon. Thus, a new substitute name is required under Art. 60 ( ICZN 1999). Therefore, I propose Oncocephalus enallus nom. nov. for Oncocephalus bipunctatus Livingstone & Ravichandran, 1990 . The epithet is derived from the Greek adjective ἔναλλος, -ον, Latinized enallus , - a, - um, ‘changed, contrary’ and reflects the replacement name required by the homonymy, i.e., this has been changed.
