The original description appeared in issue 9/10, dated 25 March 1919. The type series mentioned by Buresch (1919: 228) consisted of 15 ♂♂ and 4 ♀♀. Subsequently Kudrna (1989: 28) stated erroneously “type-series prob- ably destroyed”. The specimens stored in the museum are 18 ♂♂ and 4 ♀♀. For stability of nomenclature and fol- lowing Article 74 ( ICZN 1999) the female with identifier “NMNHS-INV-T-01027” is here designated as lectotype for Satyrus arethusa strumata Buresch, 1919 . The specimen was illustrated in the original publication by Buresch (1919: Taf. III: Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–2 ). The taxon is indistinguishable from the nominate subspecies; a junior subjective synonym of Papilio arethusa arethusa [Denis et Schiffermüller], 1775 (syn. n.).
