Female. Distended body length 1.6 mm. Body distinctly bicoloured. Head uniformly brown; antennal segments I to II brown, III to V yellowish white with distal half to third brown, VI brown with basal third yellowish white, VII pale brown, VIII pale. Pronotum with pale brown lateral stripes, median longitudinal pale area converging at anterior margin and slightly narrowed at posterior margin, and slightly shaded ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 22 – 24 ); pterothorax yellowish white with each side of mesonotum and metascutum shaded; fore wing almost uniformly brown with median third slightly darker; all legs yellowish white. Abdominal segments I to VI almost yellowish white, tergum II with brown markings on each anteroangular area and brown marking along middle of anterior margin, terga III to VI with brown markings along antecostal line ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 25 – 26 ); segments VII to IX dark brown, segment X dark brown with apex slightly pale. Prominent body setae shaded.

Head about 1.0 times as long as wide, distinctly sculptured dorsally with transverse anastomosing striae on basal third of dorsal surface, strongly produced in front of fore ocellus, strongly constricted behind compound eyes with cheeks rounded ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 22 – 24 ). Compound eyes almost as long as length of cheeks, without pigmented ommatidia. Ocellar setae II less than 0.3 times the length of setae III, setae III situated between hind ocelli and 5.5 times as long as distance between their bases ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 22 – 24 ). Antennal segments IV and VI the longest; sensecone of segments III and IV each 0.5–0.6 times and 0.5–0.6 times as long as their segments ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 22 – 24 ). Antennal segments length/width of I–VIII: 0.9–1.0, 1.4– 1.5, 2.8–3.7, 3.4, 2.9–3.3, 3.9, 1.3–1.7, 4.0–4.5.

Pronotum 1.5–1.6 times as wide as long, smooth, without sculpture, with 12 discal setae; posteroangular setae I 1.6–1.9 times as long as setae II and 0.6–0.7 times as long as pronotal median length; posterior margin with only one pair of setae, these no longer than the discal setae ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 22 – 24 ). Mesonotum almost smooth on anterior half; median pair of setae situated near posterior margin ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 22 – 24 ); anteromedian campaniform sensilla absent. Metascutum smooth medially; median pair of setae situated at or near anterior margin and 0.3 times as long as metascutal median length, slightly shorter than submedian pairs; campaniform sensilla absent ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 22 – 24 ). Metaepimeron with a seta. Fore wing costal vein with 25–31 setae (left 25, right 28 in holotype), first vein with 5 basal setae, second vein with 13–17 setae (left 17, right 13 in holotype); clavus with 3 veinal and 1 discal setae.

Abdominal terga II to VIII with some lines of sculpture at each side, smooth mesad of median campaniform sensilla ( Figs. 25–26 View FIGURES 25 – 26 ); terga V to VIII with B4 setae minute ( Figs. 25–26 View FIGURES 25 – 26 ); tergum IX with posterior pair of campaniform sensilla, a minor seta present between B1 setae and slightly shorter than B1 setae, SB1 setae much shorter than B1 setae, SB2 setae absent ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 25 – 26 ); sterna without discal setae; sternum II with three pairs of posteromarginal setae; sternum VII with all setae in front of posterior margin. Ovipositor 2.2 times as long as pronotal median length.

Measurements of female holotype (in m). Body length 1640. Head dorsal length 133, across cheeks 128, width behind compound eyes 108; compound eye dorsal length (width) 70 (43); ocellar setae III length (interval) 55(10). Pronotum median length (width) 125 (185); posteroangular setae I length 80, setae II length 43. Metascutum median length 85; median setae length 25. Fore wing length 880. Abdominal tergum IX median length 130; tergum X median length 93. Ovipositor length 270. Antenna length 350; segments I–VIII length (width): 30 (30), 38 (28), 63 (23), 68 (20), 50 (15), 68 (18), 13 (8), 23 (5); segments III and IV sensecone length 33 and 35.

Male. Macropterous. Distended body length 1.3 mm. General structure and colour similar to female, but slightly smaller and paler. Abdominal tergum IX with a pair of campaniform sensilla near posterior margin, without drepanae, with 7 setae on posterior margin behind campaniform sensilla ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 27 – 29 ); sterna III to VIII each with 5 glandular areas (paired circles laterally and 1 oblong medially near antecostal line) ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 27 – 29 ). Parameres of genitalia with projection at middle of dorsal surface, a pair of large spatulalike lobes bearing many small teeth on inner margin elongated at outer side of each paramere; a pair of phallic spikes present ( Fig. 29 View FIGURES 27 – 29 ).

Type series. Holotype (female) and paratypes (1 female and 1 male): Taiwan, Nantouhsien, Nanshanchi, host unknown, 3iv1993, T. Nonaka & S. Okajima.

Comments. This new species runs to T. alis in the key by Bhatti (2000). However, it can be distinguished from the latter species by the following: pronotum without sculpture, and abdominal terga with brown markings along antecostal lines. It appears to belong in the bellus section, but the male has five glandular areas, not scattered areas, although tergum IX lacks drepanae. This new species has characteristic male genitalia with a pair of large lobes.

Etymology. In reference the type locality.
