Description

Length of male 10 mm, of female 11 mm; maximum width of male and female pronotum 2.0 mm. Body surface granulose and rugose. Overall color orangebrown, with light or dark brown areas on the neck, pronotum, hemelytra, connexivum, and ventral abdomen.

Head elongated, fusiform, granulose, three times as long as wide (1:0.32), and distinctly longer than pronotum (1: 0.7). Clypeus truncated apically. Anteocular region nearly three times as long as the postocular (1:0.3), the latter subcircular, with sides conspicuously convergent posteriorly. Eyes black, in lateral view reaching the level of the lower but not the upper surface of the head. Ratio between eye width and synthlipsis (1:2.2). Ocelli very small, about as large as individual granules of head integument. E xternal spinelike projection of antenniferous tubercle small, barely extending beyond base of first antennal segment. Genae compressed laterally, platelike, apex considerably surpassing clypeus. Rostrum reaching prosternum, first segment falling slightly short of level of anterior border of eyes; ratio of rostral segments 1: 0.8:0.4.

Antennae inserted slightly apicad of midanteocular region. Ratio of antennal segments 1: 2.3: 1.8: 2.1.

Pronotum granulose, fore lobe narrow, with conspicuous tubercles, the 2 + 2 discal tubercles more evident. Sides of anterior lobe not distinctly divergent behind, forming a conspicuous angle with sides of posterior lobe. Anterolateral angles of pronotum subtriangular, angular apically. Carinae of posterior lobe reaching posterior border of pronotum. The following areas of pronotum dark brown: a spot in a middle region, between anterior and posterior lobes; 1+1 spots on lateral margins of hind lobe; one stripe on inferior margin of posterior lobe slightly surpassing limits of submedian carinae. Scutellum excavated on disc, scutellar process subcylindrical, slightly compressed laterally, rugose transversally on dorsum, not sulcate.

Hemelytra distinctly short in both sexes, not reaching apex of abdomen, only reaching sixth tergite. Corium more than half as long as hemelytra, reaching level of center of third visible connexival segment, with 1+1 light brown spots. Membrane dark brown, nearly black.

Legs short. Venter of femora with one to three denticles, one much larger than the others. Tibiae slender, compressed laterally with distinct ventral carina. Spongy fossulae absent. Tarsi mediumsized, threesegmented.

Etymology

This species is dedicated to Dr. Augusto Corredor Arjona, a parasitologist born on October 26, 1930, in Ibague, Colombia. He has dedicated his life to research in parasitology and public health, publishing numerous papers in domestic and international journals and contributing to the orientation and development of tropical disease control programs in Colombia.

Diagnosis

Differentiation of this species from all other species of genus Belminus is easy, based on the overall orangebrown color with small dark brown spots on the pronotum, hemelytra, and connexivum and by the short (brachypterous) wings.
